groundworkk returns December 1st! / by Katie DeConto

Hey there! groundworkk here.

It’s been a while since you’ve seen us around, and you’re probably wondering right about now what that means, and I'll get to that, but let’s start with a little bit about you.

  1. Do you consider yourself a “community-minded” individual? (i.e. Do you care about what’s going on in your city, and have an opinion about what programs and businesses you’d like to see?)

  2. Do you like to support small-business entrepreneurs and have a direct hand in their success?

  3. Do you enjoy good times In Durham with friends and local food?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, I’m pleased to tell you that groundworkk is just what you’ve been looking for!

So…what exactly is “groundworkk”?

The concept of groundworkk is simple... At groundworkk, attendees donate $5 to hear and learn about local, community ideas and projects through short presentations and question/answer sessions. Presentations are followed by refreshments prepared by an aspiring area chef, during which attendees have the opportunity to discuss the creative ideas in a relaxed, communal atmosphere. During the refreshments, attendees vote for their favorite project/idea and the winning idea/project is awarded the funds raised from that evening’s event!

groundworkk Durham started in January, 2013, and has already had a wide-spread impact on the community. Just a few of the outstanding Durham projects we’ve helped fund are: The Benevolence Farm Documentary (http://benevolencefarm.org/), Mission 100% (http://mission100percent.com/), and Reality Works (http://www.realityministriesinc.org/). groundworkk has had a hand in not only providing funding but also networking, marketing, and impact opportunities for these and many more local programs and businesses.

So now, I bet you’re wondering how you can get involved? Great news!

The next groundworkk event will take place on Tuesday, December 1st at Mercury Studio. Doors at 6:30.

So whether you have a creative idea and would like to be considered as a presenter, or you want to hear about and have a voice in what’s going on in your community, we welcome you to attend groundworkk on December 1st for good food, drinks, and lively presentations and conversation. We can’t wait to see you there (and bring all your friends!)
