The Muse Masquerade Fundraiser for the Carrack Art Gallery / by Bethany Yankie-Bush

If you’re looking for a proper grownup Halloween event to attend this fall, look no further than the Carrack Modern Art Gallery’s Muse Masquerade, a “creative black tie” fundraiser to be held in the posh downtown 21c Museum Hotel Durham later this month.

The Carrack’s current director Laura Ritchie, who is co-coordinating the event with Kerry Crocker, collaborated in the past with our own Megan Jones to develop the Art Salon series that first began its meetings at Mercury Studio.

Far from your standard fundraising gala, this unique event offers an opportunity to “choose your price” to don a mask and engage in a varied array of performances and interactive art experiences sure to inspire.

Talents ranging from NYC drag artist Shasta Kol and Durham musicians Beauty World and shirlette ammons will represented alongside such unique contributions as spontaneous typewriter poetry from the Poetry Fox and live interactive dance encounters.

Hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Counting House and a glass of sparkling wine are provided to masquerade guests, and the Counting House Restaurant and Bar are also available during the event.

The evening will include a scavenger hunt and costume contest with prizes like apparel from Runaway Clothing, a one-night stay at 21c, and a Durham Art Guild membership.

The Muse Masquerade will be held from 8pm-midnight on October 23rd, and all proceeds from the Muse Masquerade will support events, exhibits, and operations of The Carrack in the coming year.
